Three individuals lost their lives following the disappearance of a group of hikers during the eruption of a volcano in Indonesia earlier today. Mount Dukono released ash up to 10km high while the hikers were exploring the area. Authorities evacuated 15 people from the 1,335m-high mountain, and two porters remained to assist in recovering the deceased. The volcano has erupted nearly 200 times since late March, according to the Indonesian Volcanological Survey. Despite warnings and a climbing ban, a group of 20 hikers, including foreigners and locals, ventured into Mount Dukono. The bodies of the victims are located at higher altitudes, complicating rescue operations due to ongoing eruptions and difficult terrain. Officials had disseminated alerts through social media and banners at trail entrances. The volcano is currently under a Level Two alert, indicating increased volcanic activity and a need for vigilance.
