Passengers on a Japanese train experienced breathing difficulties due to a chemical spray incident, resulting in ten individuals being taken to the hospital. The incident occurred on the Tokaido Line section of the Ueno-Tokyo Line on Sunday, May 10, as reported by local media.
The train was en route to Takasaki Station in Gunma Prefecture from Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture when the substance was sprayed inside the train. Passengers began feeling unwell, coughing, and having difficulty breathing, prompting authorities to respond to reports of the incident around 4:30 pm. The train made an emergency stop at Kawasaki Station at approximately 4:35 pm.
Upon arrival at JR Kawasaki Station, over 20 ambulances and emergency vehicles were present. Train services between Yokohama and Shinagawa stations on the Tokaido Line were temporarily suspended following the incident.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the nature of the substance or the severity of injuries caused. JR East, the largest of the seven Japan Railways Group companies, resumed train operations on the Yokosuka Line tracks subsequent to the incident.
