Following the incident, a routine audit conducted by the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group uncovered that 48 staff members had accessed patient records without valid reasons, a fact that was not disclosed to the affected individuals until recently. Survivors like Leanne Lucas, a dance class instructor and patient at UHLG, expressed shock and dismay at the breach of privacy, labeling it as an attempted cover-up.

In response, the hospital trust denied any cover-up attempts, stating that the initial plan was to inform the affected individuals. However, the leadership changed their stance in 2025, believing that informing the patients could lead to further trauma.
