Carrie Johnson has shared her harrowing experience of being drugged by notorious black-cab rapist John Worboys, leaving her in a state where she felt suicidal. The incident occurred in 2007 when Johnson, then a 19-year-old student, was picked up by Worboys after a night out in Chelsea. Despite not having enough money for the fare, Worboys offered to drive her home, expressing concern for her safety as a young woman alone late at night.
Johnson recounted how Worboys, claiming to have won money at a casino, offered her champagne to celebrate, which she refused. However, she unknowingly consumed a spiked shot of vodka given by Worboys. Fortunately, she passed out at home and not in Worboys’ cab, narrowly avoiding a more severe outcome. Reflecting on the incident on Good Morning Britain, Johnson described her distress upon returning home and expressing a desire to end her life due to the traumatic experience.
Following the ordeal, Worboys brazenly gave Johnson his phone number as she exited the cab, a move that later served as crucial evidence for the police. Johnson highlighted how this predatory behavior indicated Worboys’ intent to potentially target her again in the future.
Worboys, convicted in 2009 for 19 sexual offenses committed between 2006 and 2008 in London, initially received an indefinite sentence with a minimum of eight years. Subsequent publicity surrounding the case prompted additional victims to come forward, leading to further charges against Worboys for crimes spanning from 2000 to 2008.
Johnson revealed that more women have reached out to her following the release of a miniseries recounting Worboys’ victims, expressing concerns that they may have also been targeted by him. She suggested that the number of victims could potentially exceed 1,000, given the duration of his criminal activities as a cab driver.
In a controversial decision, a Parole Board panel in 2017 approved Worboys’ release, which was successfully challenged by two victims. Recently, Worboys was denied parole for a second time due to continued concerns about his threat to women. His eligibility for parole will be reviewed again in approximately two years.
