Kenneth Iwamasa, aged 61, has been given a three-year and five-month prison sentence for administering drugs that led to the death of Matthew Perry, the renowned actor from the TV series Friends. Perry, who passed away at 54 in October 2023, had ketamine administered by Iwamasa in the days leading up to his demise. Iwamasa pleaded guilty to distributing the drug that caused Perry’s death or severe harm.

During the sentencing, Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett highlighted Iwamasa’s awareness of Perry’s battle with addiction and condemned his reckless behavior not only on the day of Perry’s death but also in the days preceding it. While acknowledging that there was no concrete evidence of malicious intent, Judge Garnett emphasized the gravity of Iwamasa’s actions. Iwamasa expressed his remorse in court, apologizing for his illegal acts and expressing deep regret.

Iwamasa’s defense attorney, Alan Eisner, argued for a lighter sentence citing his client’s loyalty to Perry and his compliance with perceived instructions from a superior. However, Judge Garnett pointed out that Iwamasa had the option to refuse. Suzanne Perry, Matthew’s mother, shared the impact of her son’s death, accusing Iwamasa of facilitating illegal drug use and endangering Matthew’s life.

Furthermore, Iwamasa was implicated in purchasing ketamine from Erik Fleming, an acquaintance of Perry, who in turn obtained the drug from Jasveen Sangha. Sangha, known as the “Ketamine Queen,” received a 15-year prison sentence, while Fleming was sentenced to two years behind bars recently.

The LA County Medical Examiner identified ketamine as the primary cause of Perry’s death, with drowning listed as a secondary cause. Iwamasa initially withheld information about the ketamine injections when questioned by authorities but later confessed to administering multiple doses of ketamine to Perry daily, including a fatal injection on the day of his death.
