Ashton, 41, who is engaged to actor Tom Hiddleston, likened some on-screen intimate scenes to a form of “prostitution” and advised young actresses to prioritize their comfort over industry expectations.

In a candid conversation shedding light on a rarely discussed topic, Ashton shared her own experiences, revealing instances where she felt pressured into uncomfortable situations during intimate scenes on set. She emphasized the importance of younger actresses feeling empowered to say “no” to situations that make them uneasy, highlighting the significance of safeguarding their mental well-being both in life and art.

Ashton, also recognized for her role in The Marvels film franchise, acknowledged the compromises actors often make to ensure the authenticity of intimate scenes on screen, including wearing prosthetics. She highlighted the challenges of making on-screen intimacy appear real, noting the use of glycerin for sweat effects and various levels of nudity required for different scenes.

Recalling a nerve-wracking experience filming intimate scenes with Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie “Velvet Buzzsaw,” Ashton shared that she turned to prosecco for a confidence boost before the shoot. The actress explained that the drink not only provided courage but also helped quiet the inner turmoil that can follow such intense scenes, likening it to the post-reflection after a casual encounter.

Ashton’s relationship with Hiddleston blossomed during their joint performance in the stage production of Betrayal, which later moved to Broadway. The couple’s engagement was confirmed in 2022 after Ashton was spotted wearing a significant diamond ring following the birth of their first child.
