“Aggressive XL Bully Breed Dog to Be Euthanized After Fatal Attack”

Published on

An oversized aggressive dog that fatally attacked a man will be put down following a court order. Scott Samson was discovered dead in a bloody scene at his residence in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, last March, alongside a dog he was looking after. Despite a post-mortem examination, it remains unclear whether the 38-year-old died from the dog’s attack or natural causes.

The dog, identified as an XL bully breed, had been housed in a kennel since the incident, incurring significant costs for the authorities. The animal, owned by Neal Stark of Rutherglen, was placed in Scott’s care by a mutual friend while Stark was serving a prison sentence for drug-related offenses. The dog’s status as an unregistered XL bully led to its classification as a banned breed by an expert.

In a recent development, Glasgow Sheriff Court issued the destruction order for the dog, ending its stay in the kennel. Despite the animal’s involvement in the tragic incident, no criminal charges will be filed, as confirmed by prosecutors. Scott’s mother, Morag, expressed frustration over the lack of information from the police regarding her son’s death and the dog’s role in the tragedy.

The dog, which has been under police care since the incident, will now be euthanized by a veterinarian as per the court order. The high costs associated with housing XL bully breeds in Scotland have raised concerns due to the limited number of approved facilities available for such cases. Morag, who was unaware of the circumstances surrounding her son’s death until receiving the post-mortem report, expressed her shock and grief over the tragic turn of events.
