Aldi has revealed its ambitious plans to open 80 new stores in the next two years, backed by a significant £1.6 billion investment. In the upcoming 13 weeks, 21 new stores are scheduled to open, including locations in Shoreditch, Durham, and Kirkintilloch.
The discount retailer has identified 20 priority locations for new store openings, with a focus on areas like Bromley, Ealing, South Shields, and Witney. Currently operating 1,060 stores in the UK, Aldi aims to expand its reach to 1,500 stores, leading to the creation of numerous job opportunities and partnerships with British suppliers.
In its recent financial report for the 12 months ending in December 2024, Aldi reported a sales increase to £18.1 billion. Despite a dip in operating profit to £435.5 million, attributed in part to customer-friendly pricing, infrastructure investments, and increased employee wages.
To further benefit customers, Aldi has slashed prices on over 900 products recently, investing over £300 million in price reductions since the beginning of 2025. The supermarket also raised its store assistant wages twice this year, with a new minimum hourly rate of £13.02 nationally and £14.35 within the M25 area.

With a focus on expanding its reach to more communities, Aldi aims to make its products accessible to millions more customers through its £1.6 billion investment over the next two years.
Aldi’s dedication to offering competitive prices was reinforced when consumer group Which? named it the cheapest supermarket last month. According to Which?, a basket of 75 items cost £127.92 on average at Aldi in August 2025, making it 38p cheaper than the same basket at Lidl with its loyalty program, Lidl Plus.
