“Aldi Trials Earlier Store Closures to Cut Costs”

Published on

Aldi is conducting a trial where selected stores will close an hour earlier, at 9pm instead of 10pm. The adjusted closing time has already been implemented in some stores, with others scheduled to follow suit this month.

Although Aldi has not disclosed the specific stores affected, signs are being displayed in the stores to inform customers. An announcement made by an Aldi worker in Heanor, Derbyshire, confirmed the change in closing hours starting from July 13 on a trial basis, potentially becoming permanent.

Another Aldi branch employee in the West Midlands mentioned that their store would adopt the new 9pm closing time beginning July 16. Currently, out of Aldi’s 1,084 stores, around 48 are already closing at 9pm, aligning with the supermarket’s goal of reaching 1,500 stores in the UK.

Aldi emphasized its commitment to offering the lowest prices possible to customers, driven by its efficient business model that enables passing on increased savings. The supermarket announced plans to open 16 new stores in the upcoming months, revealing a list of locations that include Watford, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.

Moreover, Aldi intends to upgrade 25 existing stores across the UK, enhancing shopping experiences with features like expanded shopping space and energy-efficient fridge doors. Specific enhancements will vary by location, with improvements planned for areas such as Liverpool, London, Aberdeen, Nottingham, and Manchester.

Additionally, store extensions are scheduled for York, Liverpool, and Yarm to create a more spacious shopping environment with wider aisles. These store enhancements are part of a substantial £300 million investment in existing stores and a £370 million commitment to opening new stores nationwide.
