The Met Office has issued a new amber weather alert for heavy and continuous snowfall, prompting six regions to stock up on essential supplies.

The snow warning, which encompasses central and eastern parts of Scotland, will be in effect from 3 am until 2 pm tomorrow, coinciding with a broader yellow warning for ice and snow across 51 areas in Scotland and northern England. The amber advisory advises against driving in these conditions and recommends preparing with torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities.

A snow band is expected to move in from Sunday morning, with anticipated snowfall ranging from 2cm to 5cm in lower areas, 10cm to 15cm above 150 meters, and locally 20cm to 30cm above 300 meters. Strong winds may cause snow drifting and blizzard conditions, potentially resulting in deep snowdrifts.

In addition, a yellow ice warning is currently active until midday today for London, South East England, East Midlands, East of England, North West England, South West England, West Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber, and Wales. This warning highlights the risk of partially thawed snow refreezing, freezing fog, and wintry showers, leading to icy surfaces and an increased likelihood of slips and falls.

Furthermore, a separate yellow snow and ice warning covering Northern Ireland from 5 pm yesterday until 11 am today predicts icy patches and hill snow.
