A family vacation in Dubai turned into a harrowing experience for a couple and their young son after escalating tensions between American, Israeli, and Iranian forces left them stranded in a hotel without windows. Glyn Tookey, 57, and his wife started their Middle East trip in Abu Dhabi before moving to Dubai, where they found themselves caught in the chaos as military actions unfolded in the region.
The situation escalated rapidly, with Iran’s military launching missiles towards neighboring areas, including Dubai, prompting authorities to advise Mr. Tookey and his family to seek shelter within the hotel premises. Initially mistaking the sounds of explosions for fireworks, the family soon realized the severity of the situation as they witnessed missiles being fired and received urgent alerts on their phones advising them to stay safe.
Currently confined to a hotel in Jumeirah, the family has been instructed to stay indoors in rooms without windows to avoid potential harm. Despite the challenges, they, along with numerous other stranded Brits, are making the best of the situation while awaiting further instructions on when they can return home. Efforts are underway to repatriate British citizens, with some already being flown back via chartered flights, albeit with logistical challenges delaying some departures.
