Ant and Dec Reveal Reasons for Brit Awards Exit

Published on

TV stars Ant and Dec have revealed the reasons behind their decision not to host the Brit Awards again, suggesting a falling out with Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The popular duo led the ceremony in 2001, 2015, and 2016 but have opted out of a repeat performance.

During their podcast Hanging Out, Ant discussed their reluctance, citing the challenge of managing an event where the focus is on having fun. He mentioned the difficulties in securing mid-show interviews with celebrities, which often don’t materialize as promised.

Coldplay was specifically mentioned as a band that backed out of an interview, leading Dec to playfully mention the beginning of a rift with Chris Martin. When asked about hosting the upcoming BRITs, Ant jokingly replied, “No, not me. Three times is enough. Never again.”

Ant further explained the complexities of hosting, highlighting the contrast between the enjoyable experience for nominees and the challenging task of managing a lively crowd while conducting the show. He recounted instances where artists who agreed to pre-show interviews changed their minds last minute, causing added stress.

Reflecting on past incidents, Dec shared a memorable moment when they missed witnessing Madonna’s infamous fall during the live broadcast in 2015. Despite the challenges, the duo expressed relief and satisfaction upon successfully concluding the event.

Ant and Dec also reminisced about their own nomination for a BRIT award in the nineties, humorously mentioning their competition with Oasis. They praised the ceremony as a great night for nominees but humorously downplayed the success of Oasis at the time.

In a light-hearted exchange, the duo shared their experiences and insights into the complexities of hosting the Brit Awards, showcasing their wit and camaraderie throughout the discussion.
