An esteemed personality from the Antiques Roadshow, Theo Burrell, has tragically passed away, leaving her husband devastated as he fondly remembers her as an exceptional individual. Theo’s husband, Alex, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, revealing that her demise occurred sooner than expected after being diagnosed with cancer.
In an emotional post, Alex posted a photo of Theo, aged 39, affectionately embracing a dog, expressing, “It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of Theo’s peaceful passing, surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday afternoon. Neither she nor her medical team had anticipated this rapid turn of events. Theo was a remarkable individual who fiercely advocated for her family, friends, and raising awareness about this cruel disease.”
Reflecting on Theo’s journey, Alex continued, “She experienced significant life milestones like witnessing her son’s first day of school and her wedding, moments that just over four years ago seemed unattainable. The cancer community provided immense comfort and resilience during her darkest hours, offering hope. Theo’s ultimate wish would be for others to find hope in her story, challenging the grim statistics and envisioning a future where outcomes are vastly improved.”
In June, Theo disclosed that it had been four years since she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, surpassing the initial prognosis of 12-18 months given by doctors. She courageously shared, “On the 7th of June this year, I celebrated four years since my glioblastoma diagnosis. Like other GBM patients, I was expected to live for 12-18 months. Following that news, I battled dark thoughts, fearing I wouldn’t witness my son’s second birthday, let alone his school commencement. However, I am fortunate to have experienced these milestones. Life post my second surgery in January has been a rollercoaster. Despite challenges with my vision and coordination, my husband and I managed to escape to the Lakes for a few days of relaxation.”
Displaying unwavering determination, Theo conveyed, “Even as the next scan approaches, I have found a renewed sense of resolve to face the GBM head-on. Whether the results are positive or not, I will trust my oncologist and move forward. To those fighting brain cancer alongside me, remember we are not alone. Every day we persevere is a victory against the illness.”
A respected figure in the fight against brain tumors, Theo became a Brain Tumour Research Patron in 2023, advocating tirelessly in Holyrood and Westminster to amplify the voices of brain tumor patients. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, dedicated to advancing new treatments for glioblastoma through clinical trials.
