Apple revealed its latest innovation, the Duo foldable phone, marking a significant advancement in its flagship product lineup. The Duo, resembling a passport in size and shape with rounded edges, unfolds into a wide horizontal screen that can also be used vertically. Featuring a smaller single screen on the front when folded, it is touted as Apple’s thinnest phone when open. Priced at $2,999 globally and $1,999 in the U.S., pre-orders for the Duo will commence on Oct. 17, with availability starting on Oct. 23.
Describing the Duo as a revolutionary leap forward for the iPhone, John Ternus, Apple’s CEO, emphasized the device’s unique design and user experience. Contrasting it with existing foldable phones, Ternus highlighted the Duo’s enhanced functionality for everyday tasks like scrolling and video viewing. The device offers an iPad-like experience in a compact form factor through a custom hinge, dual displays with a consistent aspect ratio, and a durable titanium body.
The unveiling event, featuring Ternus as the lead for the first time, signifies a major overhaul of Apple’s flagship product line since the removal of the physical home button in the iPhone X. The new iPhone Pro models and AirPods were also introduced, emphasizing privacy and AI integration. Additionally, Apple introduced a feature to combat AI-generated images and announced health-focused upgrades for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
With the introduction of the Duo and other cutting-edge products, Apple aims to push the boundaries of innovation and cater to the evolving tech needs of consumers.
