Apple has released an upgraded version of its popular AirTag, a small tracking device that helps users locate lost items. The new AirTag features an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, providing a better range for Precision Finding. This improvement allows users to locate items more accurately from a greater distance, with up to a 50% increase in Precision Finding. Additionally, the new AirTag includes a redesigned speaker that emits sounds 50% louder than the previous model, making it easier to locate misplaced items.
The AirTag continues to leverage Apple’s Find My network, which anonymously connects to nearby Apple devices to update the owner on the location of the lost item. Apple has emphasized privacy in the redesign of this system, ensuring that location history is not stored on the AirTag and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end for the owner’s eyes only.
Moreover, the new AirTag integrates seamlessly with the Share Item Location feature on iOS, allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to assist in recovering lost belongings. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines to support this feature, enhancing the user experience.
The latest AirTag model is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices for the AirTag start at £29 for a single device or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original model, which started at £35.
Users can benefit from these new features and improvements in the updated AirTag, making it an even more valuable tool for keeping track of important belongings efficiently and securely.
