Several schools and nurseries went into lockdown this morning due to an armed man attempting to gain entry. In Calder, Edinburgh, locals were advised to stay indoors as armed police responded to a report of a man with a bladed weapon in the area of Calder Gardens outside Cobbinshaw House South around 9 am.

The situation led to high-rise buildings being locked down, with three ambulances rushing to the scene. Two individuals sustained injuries and were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, according to Police Scotland.

Footage captured the man walking down a street carrying what seemed to be two large blades while wearing cream-colored attire with a black backpack, brown hat, and red and white sneakers.

Witnesses reported that the man vandalized a local convenience store, causing chaos and reportedly threatening staff with a knife after attempting to access a school and nursery. Residents described how he was chased away after his failed attempts.

Residents in the area, including parents trying to take their children to school, were affected by the lockdown. One resident mentioned seeing police heavily present, preventing any movement in the vicinity.

Although the incident caused alarm, Police Scotland assured the public that the situation is under control and not linked to terrorism. Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy stated that the disturbance was contained, with no broader risk to the public reported. The authorities continue their investigation, emphasizing that anyone with information should contact the police.

Emergency services, including three ambulances, three paramedic response units (PRU), and a special operations response team (SORT), were dispatched to the scene. Two patients were transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment following the incident.
