Armed police responded to a street in Liverpool this afternoon following reports of a man spotted with a ‘gun’. Merseyside Police were alerted to City Road in Walton around 2.50pm after receiving information about a confrontation involving three men, one of whom was reportedly carrying a firearm.
Upon arrival, armed officers detained a man and recovered an imitation firearm at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. A witness described hearing loud shouting around 3pm, followed by the swift arrival of armed police units to resolve the situation.
A 48-year-old man from the Walton area has been taken into custody on suspicion of multiple offenses, including possession of an offensive weapon, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, and affray. Authorities are actively searching for the other two individuals allegedly involved in the disturbance, although there is currently no known threat to public safety related to the event.
Chief Inspector Andy Foster emphasized the importance of public cooperation in identifying suspects, seizing weapons, and maintaining community safety. Foster urged community members to provide any relevant information to assist law enforcement efforts, emphasizing the need to combat gun-related crimes and ensure public safety. The closure of the road has been lifted, and normal activities have resumed in the area.
