An arrest has been made in connection with the investigation involving Lucy Letby, a nurse convicted of murdering and attempting to murder babies. The Cheshire Constabulary conducted a search at a property, resulting in the arrest of an individual on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The person was later released on bail for further questioning.
Letby, aged 35 and originally from Hereford, is serving life sentences for killing seven infants and trying to kill seven others while working at the neonatal unit in the Countess of Chester Hospital. The police revealed that the arrest was part of Operation Duet, an ongoing probe into corporate and gross negligence manslaughter at the hospital.
Following comments made by Sir David Davis in Parliament regarding professional practices, the police strongly denied the allegations and emphasized the need for factual scrutiny. Sir David had called for further investigation into the police conduct, requesting the release of various documents related to the case.
The Cheshire Constabulary defended its actions, stating that it has faced continuous criticism and unwarranted attacks, emphasizing the importance of factual scrutiny in such situations. Letby’s case is currently under review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission after her appeals against the convictions were rejected.
