Authorities suspect that the individual involved in a reported large-scale stabbing incident is currently barricaded on the top floor of an apartment complex, prompting law enforcement to utilize a drone in their pursuit.
In response to reports of a “man armed with a bladed weapon,” armed officers have cordoned off a residential area in Edinburgh, Scotland. Following an alleged mass stabbing in the city, two individuals have been taken to the hospital, and authorities have identified the suspected individual’s presence in a local tower block.
Recent striking images have captured the significant law enforcement presence at the location and the sophisticated techniques being employed to locate the suspect, who was seen wielding two knives earlier in the day.
At the Calder building in western Edinburgh, officers from Police Scotland, who have a substantial presence, were observed deploying a drone earlier today, ascending to the top floor. The drone has provided authorities with an aerial perspective of the Cobbinshaw House complex, potentially aiding in pinpointing the suspect’s whereabouts.
Residents in the vicinity, upon the arrival of law enforcement, expressed astonishment at the unprecedented disturbance in the area, including local resident Mary Todd from Cobbinshaw.
Mary Todd mentioned hearing the individual the police are pursuing from the tower block as she exited the premises through the rear exit with her daughter. The man was sighted briefly brandishing a knife and emerging from a top-floor window during the ongoing standoff.
According to local residents, the armed individual reportedly entered and vandalized a nearby store before attempting to gain access to a school and chasing employees with a knife. Abigail Clegg recounted his efforts to infiltrate the school and nursery premises before being repelled.
She elaborated: “Subsequently, he entered the store, causing chaos. He pursued the store employees with a knife, creating disorder within the establishment.”
As a result of the individual’s actions, multiple educational institutions were compelled to initiate lockdown procedures earlier in the day, with residents advised to remain indoors for safety. Authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the area as law enforcement operations continue.
A representative from Police Scotland issued a statement, cautioning individuals to avoid the Calder region of Edinburgh in light of reports concerning an individual armed with a bladed weapon. Law enforcement personnel, including armed officers, are currently on-site.
