As temperatures rise across the UK, a common fruit may hold the key to staying cool during the heatwave. With temperatures exceeding 30°C in many areas, people are seeking ways to beat the heat.
As the demand for fans and portable air conditioners surges, various heatwave hacks have gone viral on social media. From freezing hot water bottles to creating DIY air conditioning units with ice and desk fans, people are trying inventive ways to cool down. Among these hacks, a lesser-known method involving frozen grapes caught my attention.
While browsing TikTok late at night, I came across a video suggesting that eating frozen grapes can help cool down the body on hot days. Unlike using frozen peas for injuries, the idea is to consume the frozen grapes to internally cool the body.
Freezing grapes is a straightforward process. Simply place the grapes in the freezer for a few hours until they are frozen. If you prefer to prevent clumping, you can transfer the frozen grapes to a freezer-safe bag for convenient storage.
From personal experience, frozen grapes effectively lower body temperature. Similar to consuming ice cream or cold beverages, eating frozen grapes facilitates heat transfer and improves blood circulation, leading to internal cooling.
Eating or drinking cold substances allows heat to transfer from the body into the consumed item, aiding in dissipating heat. Applying cold items to areas with thin skin can rapidly cool the blood traveling back to the core, reducing overall body temperature.
Frozen grapes have been beneficial for quick body temperature adjustments throughout the day, particularly during lethargic mornings or scorching afternoons. It is advisable to let the grapes soften slightly after removing them from the freezer to avoid discomfort, especially for sensitive teeth.
Once partially thawed, the grapes achieve a slushie-like consistency, making them a delightful treat without the risk of brain freeze. Avoid letting them thaw completely to maintain their structure and prevent mushiness.
While any grape color can be used for this cooling hack, green grapes are recommended for their retained flavor when frozen. Red grapes, although good unfrozen, lose their taste when frozen, unlike the slightly tangy flavor of frozen green grapes.
