A well-loved TV personality, known as Produce Pete to NBC audiences, has passed away at the age of 80. Peter Napolitano, who delighted viewers for many years, was mourned by Steven Bognar, the Managing Editor of WNBC-TV. Bognar announced the sad news on Twitter, expressing the loss felt by the NBC New York family.

Produce Pete, as he was affectionately known, was renowned for his informative segments on fruits, vegetables, and cooking tips featured on Weekend Today in New York. In addition to his TV appearances, Pete managed his family’s produce business for over five decades.

His memorable sign-off phrase, “If you eat right, you’re going to live right,” will be a lasting memory for many. Reflecting on his journey in a 2025 interview, Pete spoke proudly of his humble beginnings and the opportunities that led him to his successful TV career.

Apart from his television work, Pete was a prolific author, hosting cooking classes and advocating for healthy eating in schools to inspire the younger generation. Following his passing, Amy Morris, Senior Vice President of News at NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47, paid tribute to his contributions and described him as a cherished member of the station family.

Notably, Pete’s deep love for his wife, Bette, was evident throughout their long companionship. The couple met in their youth, raised a family together, and were blessed with seven grandchildren who occasionally appeared with Pete on his shows.
