The ‘Bondi Beach hero’ has requested global support as his health deteriorated during his stay in New York. Currently undergoing treatment in the US for gunshot wounds sustained while confronting gunmen at Bondi Beach in December, he gained worldwide attention for his courageous act captured on camera and shared online.

In an Instagram video, the ailing Mr. al-Ahmed was seen in a hotel bed surrounded by well-wishers. He expressed his health setbacks, including sudden swelling in his hand and severe pain, leading to canceled appointments and three rounds of surgery.

Despite the challenges, he finds solace in the love and well wishes from people worldwide, stating, “I feel hope, optimism, and joy knowing that so many people care for my recovery.”

The Sydney shop owner traveled to the US for specialized treatment post the December 14 terror attack, which claimed 15 lives. Naveed Akram, one of the perpetrators, faces multiple charges, including 15 counts of murder.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. al-Ahmed thanked those who visited him despite canceled meetings, acknowledging their kindness and support during his recovery. He particularly appreciated the gestures of care and concern shown to him.

Following a meeting with former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and visits to the United States Congress, the Bondi hero’s health update came after a series of significant encounters and engagements with political figures.

Mr. Rudd commended his extraordinary act, emphasizing the global impact of his bravery. The hero also met with other political leaders, including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, who praised his courage and selflessness.

Reflecting on the moment he confronted the gunman, Mr. al-Ahmed described a surge of emotion and determination to prevent further harm, highlighting his inner resolve and motivation during the harrowing incident.
