A beloved singer, who rose to fame during the lockdown period, has sadly passed away due to a brain aneurysm. Adriana Araujo, aged 49, gained a strong following for her inspirational performances and was a prominent figure in Brazil’s samba music scene.
Adriana, survived by her son Daniel and husband Evaldo, had a substantial social media presence with over 70,000 followers from around the globe. Tragically, just six years after her rise to fame, she collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, succumbing to the aneurysm at Odilon Behrens Metropolitan Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Monday.
Hailing from the favelas of Pedreira Prado Lopes in Belo Horizonte, Adriana initially engaged in Afro dance and theater workshops before venturing into her solo career in 2020. She held rooftop concerts for her local community, livestreaming them to a growing online audience, also contributing to fundraising efforts for underprivileged families in specific neighborhoods.
In 2021, Adriana released her album “Minha Verdade” (My Truth), featuring her original compositions and collaborations. Throughout her career, she graced important events in Belo Horizonte and shared the stage with renowned artists like Leci Brandão, Fabiana Cozza, Arlindinho, and Jorge Aragão.
One of her notable projects was the show “Adriana Araújo Canta Alcione,” paying homage to the Brazilian singer Alcione, a significant musical influence on Adriana. Following her untimely death, Adriana’s team expressed their grief, highlighting her warm personality, infectious smile, and the profound impact she had within the samba community.
“Samba will deeply miss her presence.”
