A massive mansion worth £306 million with 130 rooms stands as one of the largest residential properties globally, known as Mansao Safra. Constructed in the 1990s, this estate located in southern Sao Paulo, Brazil, surpasses the size of the White House and is twice as big as the Alvorada Palace, the official residence of the Brazilian president.

Covering an impressive 22,000 square meters, with over 11,000 square meters of built-up area, the mansion was built by banker Joseph Safra. It consists of five floors, including three underground levels, and boasts more than 130 rooms connected by nine lifts, initially valued at around £8 million.

Over time, the mansion’s worth has significantly increased in line with the Safra family’s expanding wealth. Joseph’s widow, Vicky, is estimated to have a net worth of approximately £19.5 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Inspired by the Palace of Versailles, the mansion’s architecture was designed by French architect Alain Raynaud. The interior remains veiled in secrecy, with very few visitors reportedly granted access.

The mansion’s design pays homage to Roman aristocratic palaces, featuring amenities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a helipad, seven family suites, and a robust security system. Energy estimates suggest the property could power a town of 2,000 people.

Joseph Safra, born in Lebanon in 1938 and later moving to Brazil as a teenager, was once ranked as the 52nd wealthiest person globally and Brazil’s richest man. His banking and financial empire, the Safra Group, spanned across various regions worldwide.

Following Joseph’s passing in 2020 at the age of 82, his wealth, including the Safra Mansion, was inherited by Vicky and their children. Vicky, now the second-richest person in Brazil, behind Eduardo Savrin, co-founder of Facebook, married Joseph at 17, leading to a successful partnership that expanded the Safra Group into a financial powerhouse.

Established in 1972, Banco Safra grew to become one of Brazil’s largest financial institutions. Vicky and Joseph raised four children and had 14 grandchildren, with Vicky now overseeing The Vicky and Joseph Safra Philanthropic Foundation, supporting initiatives in health, education, arts, and culture, extending the legacy of their financial empire.
