“Britain Braces for Heavy Rain After Weekend Sunshine”

Published on

Britain experienced sunny weather over the weekend, but the pleasant conditions may soon be interrupted by heavy rain. According to the latest weather maps from WXCharts, significant rainfall is expected to hit parts of the British Isles on Sunday, May 31, with up to 15mm predicted in certain areas. The rain is set to begin around midnight, affecting regions from Plymouth through Wales to Lancashire, including Manchester, Liverpool, northern England, and Scotland.

The South East is also forecasted to receive heavy rainfall, with potential downpours of up to 4mm per hour. The rain is expected to continue throughout the day, with the North West and Scotland preparing for the heaviest showers by 6pm on Sunday.

In specific locations, such as Plymouth, Wales, Lancashire, and the North West, varying intensities of rainfall are anticipated. Additionally, parts of Scotland, including Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, and Falkirk, are likely to experience wet conditions. London and the South East should also expect showers at a rate of up to 4mm per hour.

Although the rain is expected to clear in most areas as the day progresses, parts of Scotland, especially Glasgow and the western regions, may continue to experience rainfall by 6pm on Sunday. Cumulative rainfall data shows that southwest Scotland could receive 8mm of rain by Monday, June 1, with the Scottish Highlands potentially accumulating up to 15mm of rain by the end of Sunday.

As temperatures across the UK are set to drop, following the record-breaking 30.5C temperature in Kent on Saturday, there may be a significant decrease in temperature by the end of next weekend. Weather predictions suggest lows of 3C in central Scotland on Monday, June 1, alongside temperatures as low as 12C in London and Manchester, 10C in Plymouth, and 11C in Newcastle at the same time.

The cooler temperatures are expected to persist into Monday morning, with lows of 14C in London by midday and potentially as low as 4C in Scotland. Looking ahead, the Met Office forecasts heavy rainfall across the UK from Friday, May 29, to Sunday, June 7, with increasingly unsettled conditions in early June. The south of the UK may remain dry initially, while the north could experience rain at times, possibly becoming heavier in some areas as June progresses.
