Britain is getting ready for another bout of wintry weather as snow is predicted to arrive starting from midnight on January 27, with updated weather maps showing 24 hours of blizzard-like conditions affecting northern areas.

According to WXCHARTS data, a strong low-pressure system is expected to move in overnight on Tuesday, January 27, bringing snow that will move northwards throughout the day and into Wednesday.

Recent ECMWF snow maps indicate that snowfall will begin shortly after midnight on January 27, initially impacting regions around Stoke on Trent, Manchester, Liverpool, and parts of Scotland. By around 9 am on Tuesday, snow is forecasted to reach Birmingham and areas to the south.

London, on the other hand, is anticipated to only receive rainfall. By 3 pm, snow is expected to reach several counties in northern Wales. As the day progresses, the snow band will shift northward, with central and northern England and Scotland facing the highest risk of snowfall overnight into Wednesday.

Despite the wintry conditions, the maps suggest that many major cities, especially in southern England, may see minimal to no settling snow due to warmer air causing precipitation to fall as rain, as reported by the Express.

Forecasters warn that slight variations in the system’s path could lead to unexpected changes, with snow lines likely to shift suddenly. All data and snow accumulation predictions are based on the latest ECMWF model output via WXCHARTS.

WXCHARTS forecasts also indicate that numerous major UK cities will likely avoid snowfall as the main snow band moves northward around midnight on January 28. This will leave large parts of southern and eastern England experiencing milder weather, with rainfall instead of snow. Cities like Brighton, Canterbury, and Maidstone in the South East are expected to escape significant snow accumulation, while areas like Norwich, Ipswich, and Cambridge in East Anglia are forecasted to have temperatures too warm for snow to settle.

Moving westward, South West England is projected to be spared as the cold air recedes, meaning Plymouth, Exeter, and Truro are likely to remain mostly snow-free. A similar pattern extends to parts of southern Wales, where Cardiff and Swansea are outside the primary cold zone, with the snow threat concentrated on northern England and Scotland during this period.
