British Couple’s Honeymoon Horror: Dubai Hotel Hit by Missile Strike

Published on

A newlywed British couple in Dubai faced a terrifying ordeal when their beachfront hotel was hit by a missile strike, causing flames to shoot into the air and debris to scatter onto their balcony. Matthew McGinn, 42, was only a few feet from his window at the Fairmont Palm when a powerful explosion ripped through the luxury resort, creating chaos among guests as missiles were intercepted overhead.

The attack occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Iran launching missile and drone strikes across the Gulf in response to Western military actions. This led to airspace closures and the grounding of numerous flights.

Video footage from the couple’s hotel room captured flames erupting outside the beachfront property immediately after the explosion, while guests rushed for safety. Additional clips showed charred damage near the impact area and thick black smoke rising into the night sky. Local authorities reported that four individuals were injured in the incident.

Matthew, hailing from Liverpool, Merseyside, had arrived in the UAE with his wife Layla Hamood, 41, and their three-year-old son Jenson just a day earlier for their long-awaited honeymoon. The couple had been enjoying their first full day at the pool and beach before disaster struck.

Just minutes after returning to the hotel to prepare for dinner, the explosion occurred around 75 feet from their sixth-floor room, showering their balcony with shrapnel and shattered glass. With air defense systems engaging overhead, the couple had to quickly decide whether to evacuate or stay put.

The situation was tense as missiles flew overhead and were intercepted, prompting them to keep moving to avoid potential danger. Terrified tourists on the beach were seen contacting their families back home, while the family packed a grab bag with essential items in case they needed to flee once more.

The couple endured a sleepless night as more missile interceptions shook the area. Despite the challenges, they remained vigilant, continuously monitoring the skies for any signs of danger. The ongoing attacks have disrupted airport operations in Dubai, causing injuries to staff and the cancellation of thousands of flights, leaving many travelers stranded, including the McGinns who were scheduled to return home soon.

Expressing a desire to leave the unsettling situation and return to the UK, Matthew praised Dubai’s robust defense system for intercepting incoming threats. He acknowledged the fear and panic experienced during the ordeal, highlighting the stark contrast to the usual safety he feels in the UK.
