The family of a young British woman, believed to have been murdered in the United States, has described her as a “truly beautiful person” and “the gentlest soul.” Sonia Exelby, a 32-year-old music tutor, was remembered by her parents as being “full of quiet love.”

Ms. Exelby’s body was discovered in Marion County, Florida, five days after she went missing from her home in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Reports indicated that she had mental health struggles, suicidal tendencies, and had planned to meet individuals online who were willing to harm her.

Dwain Hall, a 53-year-old man from Marion County, awaits trial after being arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He has denied any involvement in Ms. Exelby’s death.

In a statement released through Hampshire Police, the family shared their memories of Sonia, describing her as kind, compassionate, and immensely talented in music. They highlighted her vegan lifestyle, her love for animals, and her ability to bring calmness and warmth to those around her.

Hampshire Police confirmed that Ms. Exelby went missing on October 12 from her Southsea residence before her body was found in the US. They are working with US authorities on the investigation and providing support to her family in the UK.

The family also reflected on Sonia’s childhood, her close bond with her siblings and partner, and the impact she had on her nieces, nephews, and friends. They expressed deep sorrow over her loss and emphasized the importance of remembering her for the love she shared during her life.
