“British postal worker tragically killed by wave in Tenerife”

Published on

A tragic incident unfolded as a British postal worker lost her life while vacationing abroad due to a devastating natural event. Rose Buck, 56, was fatally struck against rocks by a sudden wave while swimming at Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Despite being a proficient swimmer, Rose ventured near the rocks following the closure of her hotel’s pool, opting for the seemingly serene “blue lagoon beach” as an alternative spot.

The fatal turn of events occurred when a minor earthquake shook the coastline, generating an unexpected wave that violently pushed Rose into the shore. This impact left her unconscious with a broken C2 vertebra, prompting bystanders to alert lifeguards after a delay. Despite resuscitation efforts, Rose succumbed to her injuries on March 8, following the decision to discontinue life support due to irreversible brain damage.

Chantelle Buck-Forrest, Rose’s daughter, linked the incident to a recent earthquake in Tenerife, suggesting it may have triggered the fatal wave. Overwhelmed by the loss, Chantelle described her mother’s love for swimming and the tragic circumstances leading to her demise at the familiar “blue lagoon.” The family’s distress was compounded by the uncertainty surrounding Rose’s condition as medical complications hindered immediate brain scans.

In the wake of the tragedy, Chantelle expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and established a GoFundMe campaign to aid the family during this challenging time. Reflecting on Rose’s impact on others, Chantelle highlighted the widespread admiration for her mother’s kindness and the profound sense of loss felt by those who knew her. Despite the grief, Chantelle found solace in the overwhelming support received, recognizing the enduring legacy of her beloved mother on International Women’s Day.
