A London-based British traveler is currently facing potential imprisonment for allegedly capturing footage of Iranian missiles flying over Dubai while on vacation. The 60-year-old individual is among 21 individuals accused of violating the strict laws in the United Arab Emirates prohibiting the filming or posting of social media content related to conflict, as reported by legal advocacy group Detained in Dubai.

The man was apprehended in Dubai on Monday and reportedly immediately deleted the recorded video from his phone upon request by authorities. He claims to have been unaware of breaching any regulations. Radha Stirling, the director of Detained in Dubai, highlighted that the charges are related to spreading rumors or provocative content that could disrupt public security, under the UAE cybercrime laws. It is emphasized that even a single post can result in numerous arrests, with potential severe consequences such as lengthy prison terms for those charged.

Prosecutors in the UAE had previously warned about the dangers of sharing unverified information about incidents in the region amidst the ongoing Middle East conflict. The UAE Public Prosecution issued a statement cautioning that individuals sharing or reposting content from unknown sources could be legally held accountable, emphasizing the responsibility of information dissemination and the criminality of spreading rumors.
