A British traveler who tragically plunged off a cliff during a vacation has been named. Fergus Cooper, 23, went missing on January 18 after witnesses saw him fall into the water at Mystery Bay Beach in New South Wales, Australia. Despite extensive search efforts by police and rescue teams, Fergus couldn’t be located until his body washed up on a nearby beach days later.

The 23-year-old, described as someone who adored traveling and the outdoors, received heartfelt tributes from grieving friends and family. Chief Inspector Shane Jessep of the South Coast Police District indicated that it appeared Fergus had accidentally slipped on rocks while with a friend.

Following the emergency call on January 18, police, marine rescue, and a helicopter scoured Mystery Bay Beach, approximately 7km north of Corrunna. Upon confirming Fergus’ identity, authorities stated that a report would be forwarded to a coroner.

Remembered as an adventurous and physically fit individual who cherished the outdoors, Fergus documented his escapades on his Instagram account, showcasing activities like skiing, camping, and mountaineering. Apart from his scaffolding job, Fergus enjoyed off-road rides in his Land Rover, exploring places like the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands with friends.

This incident echoes a previous case where another British traveler, Eleanor Thompson, met a tragic end in New South Wales. Eleanor, known as Ellie, lost her life after her van crushed her during a tropical cyclone, as revealed in a November inquest. Hailing from Mold, Wales, Eleanor had embarked on a solo journey to various countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, before the fatal accident in Australia.
