Footage capturing a tense moment surfaced, depicting a British war correspondent and his cameraman narrowly escaping an Israeli missile in southern Lebanon. Steve Sweeney and cameraman Ali Rida, affiliated with Russia Today (RT), sustained injuries from shrapnel during the Israeli attack and are currently hospitalized. Margarita Simonyan, RT’s editor-in-chief, reported that an IDF plane targeted the journalists’ vehicle as they crossed a bridge in southern Lebanon. Both individuals are conscious and undergoing medical assessments for shrapnel injuries. RT confirmed that the incident occurred near Al-Qasmiya Bridge, close to a military base, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated issuing prior warnings to avoid the area. The IDF emphasized that the crossing was targeted after repeated warnings and reiterated their adherence to international law, denying deliberate targeting of civilians or journalists. Israel’s recent airstrikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, areas with a significant Hezbollah presence and civilian population, have caused extensive damage and prompted evacuations. Lebanon’s health ministry reported over 1,000 fatalities from Israeli strikes during the conflict with Hezbollah.
