British Woman Detained in Dubai for a Year Returns Home

Published on

A young British woman who had been detained in Dubai on alleged drug-related charges has returned home to the UK after a year-long ordeal, according to her family. Isabella Daggett, 22, originally from Leeds, was arrested shortly after relocating from Yorkshire to start a new job in the United Arab Emirates. Her family maintains that she was apprehended unjustly and has never been involved with drugs.

Although Isabella was imprisoned in March, the specific charges she faced were not disclosed by UAE authorities, leaving her family uninformed about the allegations against her. Recently, a family friend disclosed that she has been released and safely returned home last week. The friend expressed relief, stating that after a challenging year, Isabella is finally back home with her loved ones.

Isabella’s grandmother, Heather Smith, had previously raised concerns about Isabella’s treatment in prison, mentioning her lack of basic necessities like showers and clean clothes. Smith highlighted the harsh conditions female prisoners endure compared to their male counterparts, who have access to outdoor activities and entertainment facilities.

Drug-related offenses in Dubai are dealt with harshly, with even minor possession for personal use potentially resulting in lengthy sentences. The family is grateful for Isabella’s return and the end of her distressing ordeal in Dubai.
