Nicholas Brendon, known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, passed away from natural causes, as confirmed by his family earlier this year. Brendon, who portrayed Xander Harris on the show from 1997 to 2003, succumbed to a congenital heart defect following a heart attack in 2023.
In addition to his heart condition, Brendon also battled cauda equina syndrome, a condition causing severe back pain. Despite undergoing surgery for this ailment, it was reported by TMZ that Brendon ultimately died from atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
The Putnam County Coroner’s report revealed that Brendon had a 90% blockage in his right coronary artery, with acute pneumonia and a prior heart attack contributing to his passing. Before his death, a friend staying with Brendon noted his reluctance to seek medical help despite experiencing chest pains.
CCTV footage from Brendon’s residence showed him struggling with a cough and displaying a raspy voice prior to his demise. In a statement, Brendon’s family expressed their grief over his sudden passing and highlighted his passion for art, which he had pursued in recent years.
Throughout his life, Brendon was married twice, first to Tressa DiFiglia from 2001 to 2007 and later to Moonda Tee from 2014 to 2015, with their marriage lasting five months. The couple had tied the knot in Las Vegas in October 2014, a week after Brendon’s proposal.
