“Burberry Celebrates 170 Years with Iconic Trench Campaign”

Published on

Burberry, the renowned British fashion brand with a 170-year legacy, has launched a global campaign titled ‘The Trench, Portraits of an Icon’ to celebrate its milestone anniversary. The campaign showcases striking images of 23 influential figures from the worlds of film, music, sport, and fashion, all elegantly attired in Burberry’s iconic trench coat.

The Burberry trench coat, first created by brand founder Thomas Burberry in 1879, was crafted to provide protection against various weather conditions using gabardine, a revolutionary fabric that revolutionized rainwear. In the latest campaign images, supermodel and British fashion icon Kate Moss, a devoted Burberry enthusiast, is captured exuding grace in a timeless trench coat. Another highlight of the campaign includes reality star and supermodel Kendall Jenner showcasing her allure in a Burberry trench, while model Rosie Huntington Whitely seeks shelter under a Burberry check umbrella. The campaign also features notable personalities such as Normal People actor Daisy Edgar Jones and Arsenal footballer Eberechi Eze.

Daniel Lee, Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign, emphasizing the iconic status of the Burberry trench coat within British style and fashion. Captured by renowned photographer Tim Walker, the portraits feature a diverse lineup including Agyness Deyn, Hikaru Utada, Kid Cudi, Kristin Scott, Little Simz, Matthew Macfayden, Teyana Taylor, and more.

Over the years, the Burberry trench coat has become a staple in fashion, recognized both on the streets and on celebrities. The coat was famously worn by King Charles and Princess Diana during a vacation in Nova Scotia in 1983, and later by Catherine, Princess of Wales, during a royal visit to Belfast with Prince William in 2011. Rock legend Liam Gallagher sported his Burberry trench at the brand’s London Fashion Week show in 2018, with his sons Lennon and Gene following suit by donning Burberry’s iconic check print at a recent catwalk event.

As Burberry commemorates its 170th anniversary, the ‘The Trench, Portraits of an Icon’ campaign signifies a year-long celebration of the brand’s rich heritage and legacy. Burberry’s CEO, Joshua Schulman, emphasized the enduring appeal and global significance of the Burberry trench coat, which continues to embody craftsmanship, innovation, and authenticity for generations, reflecting the brand’s deep-rooted connection to British style and culture while inspiring individuality.
