The completion of the Bridgeland Main Street project in Calgary is set to wrap up by the end of August after several years of construction and road closures along First Avenue N.E. in Bridgeland. Local businesses have faced challenges due to the ongoing work, with owners like Melanie Aikenhead of Inglewood Art Supplies acknowledging the necessity of the project while also noting the difficulties in customer access and staff morale.

Aikenhead mentioned that while the construction had some impact on her business, she appreciates the upcoming street improvements such as new facades and tree additions. Tiana Hope from Atticus Tattoo shared similar sentiments about the construction’s disruptions to business operations during the typically busy summer season, citing issues with parking and customer awareness.

Both Aikenhead and Hope expressed anticipation for the project’s completion at the end of the month. Peter Yee, the construction project manager, emphasized the long-term benefits of the Bridgeland Main Street project, highlighting enhancements like wider sidewalks, improved public spaces, landscaping, and better infrastructure connections to support the community.

Yee mentioned that in addition to streetscape upgrades, the project included the replacement of underground infrastructure such as storm water lines, street lighting, and telecommunication facilities. He confirmed that the construction is on track for completion by the end of August, with some landscaping and final touches expected to continue into September.
