“Call the Midwife” Star Helen George Reveals ADHD

Published on

Actress Helen George from the popular TV series “Call the Midwife” recently disclosed that she has ADHD, a revelation she made for the first time during a podcast episode. She shared that she had been managing the condition for several years but had kept it hidden. Helen, 41, discussed her ADHD with Dr. Mine Conkbayir, a neuroscience expert, and her husband, comedian Paul Whitehouse, to launch the podcast’s fifth season titled “I’m ADHD! No You’re Not.”

Helen disclosed that she received her ADHD diagnosis three and a half years ago but had chosen to keep it confidential until now. She explained that the moment she realized she might have ADHD was when a male friend described women with children being diagnosed later in life, prompting her to recognize similarities in herself. This realization led her to get a formal diagnosis, a step she had not previously considered due to attributing her traits to being an actress.

The actress is still navigating her feelings about ADHD and is considering medication to assist her. She expressed the challenges of managing ADHD in a world that may not always provide the necessary support. Helen emphasized the importance of self-discovery and finding what works best for her, not only for her own well-being but also for her family and friends.

Helen, previously married to actor Oliver Boot, has been in a relationship with real estate consultant Dan Innes since 2025. Known for her role as Trixie in “Call the Midwife,” Helen has also appeared in various TV shows, participated in “Strictly Come Dancing” in 2015, and performed on the West End stage in January 2024 in “The King and I” at the Dominion Theatre in London.

ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can impact daily functioning. The podcast “I’m ADHD! No You’re Not” has featured other notable guests in the past, and its fifth season launches today on all podcast platforms.
