Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker, previously with Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, has been signed on a season-long loan with a potential purchase clause set at $29.7 million US based on specific conditions.

Union Saint-Gilloise disclosed that David will transition to the Premier League starting next season in a deal that sets a new transfer record for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward, who excelled at Union with 41 goals in 82 games, notably aiding the team in clinching their first league championship in 90 years back in 2025, extended his contract through June 2029 last year.

David, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, and has Nigerian roots, made his mark internationally by representing Canada in the recent World Cup, contributing a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also been a key figure for the Canadian national team, netting four goals in 14 appearances.

Initially starting his international career with Nigeria’s under-23 squad in 2022, David successfully switched his allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch, a move sanctioned by FIFA. His journey to Brighton marks the latest chapter in his diverse professional experience, having played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before his stint in Belgium.

Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about David’s arrival, highlighting his prowess as a goal scorer with valuable international and European experience. The club, which has maintained a presence in the English Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, is eager to witness David’s growth and impact as he enters his prime years at 25. Last season, Brighton secured an eighth-place finish in the Premier League standings.
