Celebrity Chef Tom Kerridge Opens Up About Struggles

Published on

Renowned chef Tom Kerridge recently shared insights into his personal struggles and quest for solace amidst his daily routine. Kerridge, aged 52, has been candid about his past battles with addiction, revealing that he used to consume copious amounts of alcohol before deciding to embrace sobriety more than ten years ago.

Acknowledging his challenges with achieving balance, Kerridge discussed his perpetual tardiness and constant need to fill his schedule with various activities. Reflecting on his experiences with ADHD and addiction, he highlighted the complexities of managing daily life while grappling with these issues.

Describing his affinity for chaotic yet structured environments, Kerridge emphasized his ongoing pursuit of escapism and the need for spaces where he can unwind. Despite his love-hate relationship with structure, he strives to incorporate regularity into his life while also seeking opportunities for escape.

Originally from Wiltshire, Kerridge kickstarted his culinary journey at Calcot Manor in Tetbury in 1991. He later trained under Philip Britten at the Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge, London. In 2005, he established his own gastropub, The Hand and Flowers, in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, which earned a Michelin star a year later and a second star six years after that.

In 2015, Kerridge’s second gastropub, The Coach, located in the same Buckinghamshire village, also received a Michelin star, despite Kerridge’s assertion that he does not align with the typical Michelin star persona. Transitioning into television in 2010 as a contestant on The Great British Menu, Kerridge subsequently appeared on various TV shows like Bake Off Creme de la Creme and Tom Kerridge’s American Feast before assuming a judging role on The Great British Menu in 2022.
