Channel 5 host Dan Walker, aged 49, and his former colleague Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, aged 47, have resolved their legal dispute outside of court concerning accusations of discrimination and mistreatment at the Channel 5 News workplace.
The allegations, which were denied by Walker, were set to be examined in an employment tribunal until both parties reached an agreement on Friday. As part of the settlement, the claims were retracted.
In a statement on behalf of Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, it was disclosed that a mutual resolution had been reached with ITN and Channel 5 regarding the issues under tribunal scrutiny. Vanderpuije retracted her accusations against Dan Walker and stated she had no intention of pursuing them further.
An ITN representative affirmed their full denial of the allegations and expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the matter.
Similarly, a spokesperson for Channel 5 stated their strong rejection of the claims and their contentment with the withdrawal of all accusations against Dan Walker.
The employment disagreement between Dan Walker and former Channel 5 News presenter Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije stemmed from her claims against ITN and Channel 5, alleging unfair treatment following her whistleblowing activities.
Vanderpuije voiced concerns about a toxic work environment characterized by discrimination and bullying, asserting that the network’s news content reflected these issues. She also claimed that efforts were made to conceal the problematic culture despite legal obligations.
The allegations were disputed, and no official rulings were made as the case was settled out of court.
Walker and Vanderpuije previously co-hosted Channel 5 News together before Vanderpuije departed in 2023. Walker had joined the channel in 2022 after leaving BBC Breakfast.
In a prior statement, Walker refuted all accusations, citing an internal investigation in 2024 that cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Vanderpuije’s legal team contended that the internal inquiry did not adequately address her concerns, which were also part of the tribunal proceedings.
Several individuals, including former BBC colleague Sue Barker, supported Walker, offering witness statements and testimonials.
Barker described Walker as one of the most pleasant and hardworking presenters she had collaborated with, expressing her full support for him amidst the allegations.
