Charleroi Airport, the second largest airport in Belgium located in Brussels, is scheduled to undergo an 11-week closure in 2028 for runway renovations and overall airport revitalization. This closure, set between August 15 and October 31, 2028, will impact around two million travelers, including those planning trips during the school summer holidays and the October half-term break.

The renovation project, estimated to cost approximately €50 million (£42.8 million), will involve extensive upgrades such as resurfacing the 3,200-meter runway. Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air, which currently operate flights to and from the airport, will need to reroute their services to alternative airports during this period.

Details on the specific rerouting plans have not been disclosed yet, but it is anticipated that flights may either be canceled or diverted. The airport’s management, as reported by various sources, announced that the comprehensive refurbishment of the airport’s sole runway and other infrastructure enhancements are part of the plan for the second half of 2028.
