The influential figure known as the guiding force behind Charlie Kirk has passed away after a pickleball accident. Jeff Webb, 76, also recognized as the pioneer of modern cheerleading and the founder of Varsity Spirit, the largest cheer organization in the United States, has left a lasting legacy. Varsity Spirit paid tribute to Webb on Instagram, highlighting his significant impact on the cheerleading community.
Following a fall that resulted in a severe head injury, Bill Seely, the president of Varsity Spirit, confirmed Webb’s condition. Webb had expressed admiration for Charlie Kirk, referring to him as a potential future president with remarkable qualities. He was present at the White House when Kirk posthumously received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
After being hospitalized with critical head trauma, Webb’s family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support. Besides his contributions to cheerleading, Webb also established Varsity Brands and played a key role in elevating the sport globally. His involvement with the International Cheer Union led to its recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 2021.
Webb’s influence extended to television, where he brought cheerleading competitions to audiences across the US. Known for his business acumen, he owned notable assets like a yacht, a private jet named “Cheer Force One,” and a duck-hunting estate. Webb was involved in right-wing media, co-publishing Human Events and acquiring The Post Millennial before selling both titles in 2025.
In remembrance of Webb, John Solomon, a Trump supporter, praised his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to preserving American values. Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk co-founded, also expressed condolences, recognizing Webb’s role in shaping young leaders and promoting patriotism. Webb’s legacy as a visionary and community advocate will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
