A fundraising initiative has been established to support the family of a young child who is currently hospitalized in critical condition after accidentally inhaling cake decorating dust. The child is fighting for survival after inhaling the decoration powder while his mother was baking a birthday cake.
Following the incident, the child is now in a medically induced coma and requires assistance with breathing. The unfortunate event occurred as his mother was preparing a cake themed after Bluey for a friend’s child. The cake decorating powder, when mixed with moisture, can transform into a paste that poses a risk of airway obstruction.
A GoFundMe campaign, organized by family friend Rochelle Evrard, revealed that the toddler came into contact with “gold dust powder” during the baking process, leading to him becoming unresponsive and necessitating an urgent emergency response.
In a statement, Rochelle explained, “When the dust is mixed with water it turns to paste – so it immediately blocked Dusty’s lungs.” Dusty has undergone surgery to address the lung blockage and is currently in a critical condition in the hospital. Another procedure is scheduled to adjust his breathing tube and allow medical professionals to assess his lungs.
The child continues to rely on external assistance to breathe, with his parents maintaining a constant presence by his side. The family has relocated from the Gold Coast to Brisbane for urgent medical treatment, incurring additional accommodation expenses. As of now, a total of $11,994 (£6,332) has been raised through donations to assist the family during this challenging time.
