Former CIA officer suggests that Donald Trump might employ a secretive strategy, dubbed the “crown of thorns,” with the assistance of a key Middle Eastern ally to destabilize the Iranian government. The US President issued a strong warning to Iran, emphasizing the dwindling time for negotiations on its nuclear program, as American military forces converge in the Gulf region.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that the country’s armed forces are on high alert, prepared to swiftly retaliate to any provocation.
Andrew Bustamante, an ex-CIA intelligence operative, believes that replicating a Venezuela-style intervention in Iran is improbable. However, he argues that the US has viable options for pursuing regime change in Iran, potentially through collaboration with a regional power.
According to Andrew, the US lacks military dominance on Iran’s border, unlike the situation in Venezuela, making direct intervention challenging. Instead, he proposes that the US could support Israel with resources, finances, and intelligence to carry out targeted actions, such as eliminating the Iranian leadership.
By partnering with Israel in such operations, the US could achieve its strategic goals while allowing Israel to bear the brunt of international criticism. Andrew asserts that targeting the Ayatollah in Iran, especially amidst ongoing economic unrest, is a more pragmatic approach than attempting to capture him.
He further suggests that Israel should consider a targeted assassination of the Ayatollah, drawing a parallel to past successful operations like the elimination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in 2024.
In a similar vein, the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran in 2024 was attributed to Israel, confirming the effectiveness of such covert operations in achieving strategic objectives.
