Claudia Winkleman Leaves BBC Talk Show

Published on

Claudia Winkleman has decided to step away from her BBC talk show following its first series, citing her own nervousness as a hindrance to enjoying the experience.

The program, titled The Claudia Winkleman Show, premiered earlier this year and featured Winkleman engaging with celebrity guests in a studio setting in front of a live audience.

In a statement released today, the 54-year-old expressed gratitude to the BBC for the opportunity, the guests who participated, and the exceptional production team. She acknowledged that despite the positive aspects, her nervousness prevented her from fully embracing the show. Winkleman affirmed her commitment to her current roles, emphasizing her love for her existing projects.

Having departed from her long-standing role as the host of Strictly Come Dancing in December, Winkleman remains active as the presenter of The Traitors and its spin-off, The Celebrity Traitors.

Produced by So Television, the same company behind The Graham Norton Show, Winkleman’s talk show occupied the Friday evening slot on BBC One during its run.

Even before its launch, Winkleman humorously anticipated the show’s outcome, joking about her potential performance. Throughout the show’s airing, she maintained a self-deprecating tone while assessing her own hosting skills.

Following a mixed reception to the show, Winkleman candidly acknowledged the criticisms and expressed hopes for improvement as the series progressed.

The premiere episode on March 13, 2026, attracted an audience of 1.5 million viewers overnight, surpassing the viewership of the previous series finale of The Graham Norton Show by approximately 200,000 viewers.

Throughout the series, Winkleman conducted interviews with notable guests such as Jennifer Saunders, Dan Levy, and Jeff Goldblum.

BBC One’s renowned chat show host, Graham Norton, praised Winkleman’s unique style, emphasizing that she successfully delivered her own brand of hosting and should not aim to mimic others.

In support of Winkleman’s decision to step down, Ed Havard, the BBC’s entertainment director, commended her warmth and humor on The Claudia Winkleman Show, expressing anticipation for her return in upcoming projects.

Earlier this year, Winkleman discussed her departure from Strictly Come Dancing, clarifying that the decision was not due to dissatisfaction but rather a desire to conclude her tenure on a positive note.

Winkleman bid farewell to Strictly Come Dancing in December 2025, passing the hosting baton to a new lineup for the subsequent series.
