A cleaning professional was shocked when a customer scattered 100 small toy ducks around their residence to ensure a thorough job. Devon Weitman was tasked with collecting the ducks as per the client’s instructions in a rather impolite note left for her.

The apartment owner strategically positioned the numerous miniature ducks throughout the property to guarantee a job well done. The 26-year-old was directed to gather each duck and return it to a jar to complete the “game.” Feeling demeaned by this unusual request, Devon shared her experience online, garnering 3.8 million views and over 161,000 likes.

Starting work at 7 am on a Monday morning, Devon found the gamification of her cleaning duties disheartening. She posted images of the colorful ducks scattered around the apartment after discovering the note and jar upon entering the premises.

Recalling the experience, Devon mentioned, “I was provided with the key code, as the owners were absent, and upon entering, I found the note and jar by the door. After reading the note multiple times, I was taken aback. Despite already being compensated for the service, I decided to stay and complete the job within the specified timeframe.”

“I had other commitments and couldn’t spend time searching for the remaining 34 ducks. Throughout the day, I debated whether my feelings were justified, but ultimately, I terminated the contract at day’s end as it felt belittling,” Devon explained.

Commenting on the incident, Devon remarked, “It’s not common for clients to challenge cleaners in such a bold manner. While it’s fair to expect quality service when hiring a cleaner, communication, trust in the cleaner’s expertise, or a list of priorities would be more appropriate than scattering a hundred ducks.”

Many individuals expressed astonishment at the situation.
