Comedian and television personality Ellie Taylor embarked on a journey through London while fully equipped with hiking gear today to demonstrate against the escalating costs of mobile phone bills. Donning a heavy backpack, hiking poles, and a buggy, Ellie, in collaboration with Lebara, was observed traversing Westminster Bridge towards Parliament and various landmarks.
The former Strictly contestant and the mobile provider are challenging the yearly surge in household bills, highlighting that mobile users do not need to accept continual price hikes as unavoidable. Research conducted by Lebara indicated that a significant 83% of consumers in the UK feel like they are constantly facing an uphill battle in their daily lives.
Among the 2,000 surveyed Britons, close to half (46%) expressed feeling unprepared for the latest financial blow, with 26% describing their situation as a perpetual struggle to stay afloat. The survey findings revealed that 86% believe their monthly bills have risen over the past year, yet almost one in five (19%) have not reviewed their contracts since signing them.
The escalating expenses are causing frustration (42%), anxiety (41%), and overwhelm (32%) among many individuals. Ellie remarked, “Every April, it can seem like deciphering your bill is as challenging as reading ancient hieroglyphics, with added fees, intricate terms, and prices that increase annually for the same services.”
“I’ve teamed up with Lebara to march across London and expose this absurdity because life is stressful enough without mounting bills adding pressure,” she added. “This April, we aim to turn billing woes into laughter and demonstrate that Lebara is here to support you.”
Mayur Jauhari from Lebara Mobile commented, “Many people currently feel the steepness of life’s challenges, with families struggling to cope with rising expenses at every turn. While we may not be able to eliminate every obstacle, we believe that your mobile bill should not contribute to the uphill climb.”
“At Lebara, we offer straightforward, contract-free plans starting from £5, ensuring fair pricing without yearly cost escalations. Staying connected should feel like stable ground, not another uphill battle.”
Lebara’s SIM-only packages commence at just £5 per month, providing 5GB of data, complimentary international minutes to over 50 countries, and flexibility without long-term commitments or unexpected annual price adjustments.
