“Community Rallies Behind Fired Morrisons Manager”

Published on

A Morrisons store manager who was fired for confronting an aggressive shoplifter expressed gratitude towards the community members who rallied to support him in his quest to regain his job. Sean Egan, aged 46, a long-term employee of the supermarket chain, was let go after trying to prevent a frequent shoplifter from leaving the Aldridge store near Walsall. The controversial termination sparked a local demonstration outside the supermarket in solidarity with the former manager.

Egan attended the protest and appreciated the ongoing support from the locals, stating that the people of Aldridge have stood by him since the beginning. The altercation occurred when Egan confronted Daniel Kendall, a known criminal, who became violent and spat at him inside the Morrisons store. Despite following the initial protocol calmly, Egan was dismissed for not adhering to the chain’s policy of deterrence without detainment.

In response to the incident, residents of Aldridge organized a peaceful demonstration outside Morrisons Aldridge, urging the supermarket to reinstate Sean Egan. A video from the protest captured Egan’s presence as supporters displayed signs in solidarity, with drivers honking their support for the cause.

Expressing his gratitude, Egan praised the unique community and customers of Aldridge, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout the years. A GoFundMe page initiated by local customers has raised over £12,000 to support Egan in his legal battle against the supermarket chain.

The fundraiser highlighted Egan’s commitment to challenging what he perceives as an unjust decision through an employment tribunal, emphasizing the values of fairness, loyalty, and standing up for what is right. Morrisons reiterated its priority of ensuring the safety of all employees and customers, emphasizing the importance of following established protocols to prevent harm in store incidents. The Mirror has contacted Morrisons for further comments.
