In a candid interview with The Times, the 78-year-old musical theater icon disclosed that he now attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings daily. Lloyd Webber acknowledged hitting a low point over a year ago and recognized the need for help, describing seeking assistance as a life-changing decision.

Detailing his struggle with alcohol, Lloyd Webber admitted that he used to fixate on reaching midday for his first drink, leading to a downward spiral that deeply affected his family. Despite his immense success in creating musicals like Cats and The Phantom of the Opera, he emphasized the importance of finding support through AA.

Sharing his experiences with AA meetings held in various locations across London, Hampshire, and New York, Lloyd Webber expressed appreciation for the diverse individuals he encountered, including a memorable meeting with “rednecks” in Missouri. Reflecting on personal tragedies, he mentioned his son’s battle with alcoholism and his belief that alcoholism also plagued his late father.

In a significant move, Lloyd Webber announced plans to auction off his extensive wine collection, a passion he has cherished since his teenage years. His illustrious career began in the 1960s, collaborating with lyricist Tim Rice on iconic productions like Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.
