Terrified residents fled to the streets when a pair of consecutive earthquakes jolted their homes. The first quake, as estimated by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics, occurred at 9:27 am with a magnitude ranging from 4.0 to 4.5, originating in the Forlì-Cesena province of Italy. Just two minutes later, at 9:29 am, another tremor hit the Ravenna region, measuring between 3.7 and 4.2 on the Richter scale.
Witnesses reported feeling the earthquakes for about five seconds each, causing buildings in Forli to shake violently, prompting occupants to evacuate to the streets. The widespread impact was due to the shallow depth of the seismic activity, just 14 miles below the surface, although there have been no reports of injuries thus far.
In response to the earthquakes, train services have been temporarily suspended for safety assessments along various lines in Romagna. Essential checks are being conducted on the Bologna-Rimini, Ferrara-Rimini, Castelbolognese-Ravenna, and Faenza-Ravenna rail routes.
